Digital Drive of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation & Project Overview

AMC (Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation)’s 30 MLD Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) Wastewater Project is the first to use BIM-based Construction Project Management Consultant Work Order. Building information modeling (BIM) and other digital technologies are used for the digital transformation of this project to effectively gather and analyze data, allowing for real-time data collection. Cost overruns are decreased by BIM’s increased efficiency and shortened project lifecycles. Thus, BIM is essential for improving urban development in quickly expanding cities with high infrastructure demand and valuable space. BIM creates a digital representation of an asset over its lifecycle by integrating structured, interdisciplinary data.

The 30 MLD CETP in the Danilimda area is in operation, addressing the issue of illegal discharge of untreated effluents into the Sabarmati River. Some industrial units have adopted zero liquid discharge technology, contributing to environmental sustainability. MaRS Planning and Engineering Services is the Project Management Consultant for the digital transformation of the CETP for the effluent disposal scheme for small-scale industrial units in the Ahmedabad hand screen printing association of the Danilimda Behrampura area under the AMC.

Digital Transformation of the Project

Transforming traditional industries with digital tools and technologies is the emphasis of MaRS Planning and Engineering Services, a leading company in this industry. With the integration of engineering design, BIM modeling platforms, and project management systems, the team at MaRS provides complete digitalization solutions through BIM for these kinds of operations. Thanks to this creative method, stakeholders may see weekly and monthly construction schedules, as well as track completed and unfinished jobs and project progress in real-time. Enhanced stakeholder management, decreased error margins, and streamlined workflows are all benefits of digitalization.

The MaRS team was in charge of the BIM-based project management and monitoring for the 30 MLD CETP Wastewater Project. The project was digitized to facilitate project monitoring and control, schedule management, progress tracking, workforce administration, and report generation. The team was also responsible for detecting and resolving disputes using BIM, monitoring costs, and providing 4D progress visualizations of the CETP’s planned vs. actual development.

Digitalization of the CETP Wastewater Project

BIM-Based Project Management and Digital Twin

The initiative commenced with As-built BIM Modeling, whereby all edifices underwent laser scanning. The MaRS team employed precision and skilled professionals to interpret this data into a precise 3D model using BIM technology. Consequently, detailed project views were produced that featured an array of intricate components ranging from minute pipes to massive structures – both functionally significant and visually captivating.

The integration of asset information and data into models is referred to as the “Digital Twin,” which allows for enhanced project visualization and effective facility management. When aligning with the CETP BIM model, this integration improved facility management by providing real-time insights about each asset including maintenance schedules and operational data. Consequently, it was crucial in efficient monitoring and decreasing downtime or disruptions in operations.

Utilizing the Digital Twin, predictive & preventative maintenance was facilitated. This enabled the detection of potential issues in advance, thus mitigating their severity & reducing operational disturbances as well as downtime.

By integrating data in real-time from IoT devices, the company can keep track of various project variables. The program offers facility management with up-to-the-minute monitoring that facilitates progress visualization and tracking; thereby empowering the team to stay updated about ambient conditions as well as equipment performance.

The CETP project experienced a significant transformation with the incorporation of the Digital Twin system that precisely detects any anomalies or malfunctions. This exceptional precision in detecting conflicts not only facilitated problem identification but also ensured timely resolution, thus reducing potential glitches. The company’s dedication to ensuring project efficacy and reliability is evident from this remarkable feat accomplished by implementing advanced technologies like the Digital Twin System for increased operational efficiency.

What AMC and Contractors get from Digital Twin Approach?

In the following ways, the AMC and contractors profited from implementing a digital twin strategy for the 30 MLD CEPT Wastewater project:

  • The stakeholders were able to track performance trends, progress, and prospective failures, allowing for proactive problem-solving on the construction site.
  • Increased operational value while decreasing development work.

Final Words

An example of the company’s commitment to Digital Twin technology is the 30 MLD CETP Wastewater project in Ahmedabad, which had an impact on the project’s design as well as its operation. The workplace atmosphere and creative culture of the organization have grown as a result of the employment of this technology. Honored for its creative solution to challenging problems, MaRS Planning and Engineering Services proved its commitment to quality and creativity.
